My crazy affair with life science…
By Dumdum | August 19, 2008
1 week of school just passed. I haven’t quite recovered from the pre-school activities but I’m definitely getting better sleep now. School work has started to pour in. I felt that I haven’t been managing my time well and giving sufficient attention to studies. Probably due to all the gatherings streaming in as well. They were enjoyable, some more than others. Lots of August babies I must say. The modules that I’m taking this sem seem to be progressing at a superbly crazy pace. It’s time to enforce some well needed discipline (and buy textbooks).
A span of 2 years can cause a trememdous change in some but seem to elude others. These 2 years have definitely changed me, hopefully for the better to most people. Though I tried to be better at interpersonal matters and anger management, there are times I felt that things could have been handled better and times I admired others who have handled a difficult situation by talking themselves out of it. 3 modules with projects this sem and like all my modules with projects, I hope that there won’t be internal conflicts.
Had wanted to blog about something more personal but my brain isn’t helping with the right words. Anyhow, happy birthday August babies! Hope to hear gd news from everyone after this semester.

He’s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who’s got enough of me to break my heart
He’s the song in the car I keep singing, don’t know why I do
He’s the time taken up, but there’s never enough
And he’s all that I need to fall into

Keep the flame burning
By Dumdum | July 29, 2008
I’m feeling slightly burnt out from the lack of sleep and onslaught of activities at rnf. Despite that, I felt more motivated for what I’m doing now than before. Participating in rag led to some surprising finds about myself. For one, I didn’t expect to design a t-shirt and get it printed. All my previous experiences with photoshop have been that of adding texts, improving grainy photos and adding special effects to photos by following online instructions. It just so happens that Kun asked me to think of a design which led to us discussing with the people at rag and the ideas starting flowing which led to me trying out my mediocre skills at photoshop. It was my first attempt at creating a fully digitalised art on photoshop and I’ve learnt a lot from this experience. Can’t wait to wear the shirt. Hee!
I suppose I do get temperamental and unrestrained in my comments when I’m suffering from a lack of sleep and muscle aches. We were at dinner just now and the conversation went on to a person Y and his title on forums. Without thought I said “he should be an asshole”. It was more of a reflex comment. I’m not sure if I really dislike him that much. Some things happened which confirmed that he’s not someone I would get close to or want to know better. As for that comment, I was pretty stun myself when Pauline reacted.
Time for sleep. -Lights out-

I wanna get over X
By Dumdum | July 20, 2008
Truth be told, I have lost the motivation to do X.
It makes me ponder on the equation of passion and motivation. They affect each other like a chemical equilibrium; when one side increases so will the other side and vice versa.
If only I find the activation energy to get things going.

Desktop and Spore Creatures
By Subby | July 17, 2008
Well, I planned to troubleshoot the desktop and head down to SLS to buy replacement parts if need be. What followed was rather amusing. The computer was still in its weird display-freezing state when I tried to turn it on for the first time in ages. I proceeded to open the casing, pluck out the graphics card and removed all the dirt balls with a cotton bud. It has been working ever since.
So I finally manage to get the desktop up and can’t miss the chance to try out the Spore Creature Creator Trial. Even with the limited palette made available in this demo version, it was still tremendously fun. Here are some of the uglies I made:
Oh yes, I have a profile page too!
Instead of creating another post, I’m dumping the newest trailer here:

Internship or not?
By Dumdum | July 17, 2008
I have been planning on joining the school’s internship programme for sem 2. After doing some planning for the coming semester, I realised that doing so might cause a delay in my graduation even with special term thrown in. This is because there’s quite a number of modules that are only offered in sem 2. Moreover, hyp seems an easier option than taking up high level mods.
Guess I’ll have to rethink my options and priorities.

Hellboy muse
By Dumdum | July 14, 2008
Just watched the telecast of “Hellboy” on chl 5. It ended off with:
“What makes a man a man? A friend of mine once wondered. Is it his origins? The way he comes to life? I don’t think so. It’s the choices he makes. Not how he starts things, but how he decides to end them. ”
Behind all the fighting, heroism and special effects, I feel that this movie brings across an important message about the judgement of character. It is a fact that we judge the people we encounter; to say otherwise would be a lie. Be it a derogatory whisper in the back of our minds about a person’s skin colour or whether the sides of our eyes wrinkle when we laugh at a joke by someone, we unvoluntarily form words to describe that person. The sad fact is that most people judge a person by his physical appearance, something that is inherited and difficult to change.
What makes us shun people who are very different from us is “fear” and “lack of knowledge”. The monsters portrayed in the movie are equipped with the capabilities to kill people and thus, injected fear into the general population but that doesn’t mean they do not have the faculty to make wise choices. It is therefore very important not to judge and dismiss a person too quickly.
Speaking of which, this reminds me about a recent conversation I heard about a guy that have high physical expectations where is comes to choosing a partner in life. I’ve heard many times the first few things men say when asked about the type of girls they go for. It will go something like long hair, big eyes…blah blah blah before intelligence for example. Sometimes even the last bit of inner beauty is not even included in their list. What then are they offering in return? If only they judged themselves first.
